The 1 day Jinja City adventure tour takes you to Jinja, a town situated on the shores of Lake Victoria in Eastern Uganda region. The town is approximately 81km by road, east of Kampala – Uganda’s capital city, Jinja still remains a prime tour destination with a notable number of attractions. A tour to Jinja is your chance to explore the source of river Nile – Africa’s longest river, and take a cruise on Lake Victoria – Ugand’s largest water body.

The other attractions to see include; the famous Sezibwa falls, Mabira forest – a very large rainforest, and the Owen falls dam and the various factories. This 1 day eco tour is your opportunity to encounter Jinja’s prime attractions.

Itinerary

Highlight 1Sezibwa Falls

The 1 day Jinja eco tour begins at 7:00am when a driver-guide picks you from a suitable location in Kampala, you will embark on a drive to Eastern Uganda where Jinja is located. Your first stop will be at Sezibwa Falls, along the Kampala – Jinja highway.

The falls are one of Jinja’s prime attractions and a noteworthy traditional cultural site. They are a ‘must-see’ attraction while on a Jinja eco tour. You will hike through the rocks to the top of the falls for a spectacular view of the cascades of raging waters squeezing through the massive rocks and plunging into the depths below.

The area around the falls is a habitat to a variety of bird species including; the Woodland kingfisher, White-throated bee-eater, Great blue Turaco, Striped kingfisher and the Cormorants.

Highlight 2Mabira Forest

After exploring Sezibwa, your eco tour will continue as you drive along the Kampala – Jinja highway, making your next stop in Mabira forest – the largest rainforest close to Kampala. You will drive to the eco-tourism centre for a briefing before hitting one of the many forest trails, to embark on a hiking excursion through the forest.

Your guided nature walk through the forest will last 2 hours, offering you the opportunity to encounter the massive giant trees harbouring many species of forest birds and various monkey species. You will encounter various wildlife species and plant life as you explore the forest.

Highlight 3Jinja town

After the Mabira forest excursion, your eco tour will continue with a Jinja town tour. You will drive past massive sugarcane and tea plantations before you reach town. Jinja town was once regarded as Uganda’s most thriving industrial capital.

The town had been predominantly occupied by Asians who set up and ran massive business and industrial ventures until their expulsion from Uganda in 1979 by Idi Amin, the then reigning  president of the republic of Uganda.

Left behind is the old colonial – Asian architecture, the mild traces of the once vibrant industrial community and booming business capital. You will be able to visit the curio shops and crafts centers where you can purchase souvenirs to take home – a reminder of your visit to Eastern Uganda.

Highlight 4The source of the Nile River

At the climax of your Jinja eco tour, you will visit the source of the Nile. You will visit Lake Victoria and see the exact location where river Nile begins its 4000 miles flow traversing various countries and ending it’s journey in the massive Mediterranean sea. While you take a cruise on the Nile, you will spot pods of hippos, and crocodiles basking at the river banks.

Besides the boat ride, there is a series of other adventures you can engage in while at the Nile. You could go white water rafting, quad biking, boat jetting, kayaking and bungee jumping. You will also enjoy the serene view of the water birds floating and darting off the river, the local fishermen drawing and washing their nets and the captivating beauty of the setting sun.

You will embark on a drive back to Kampala – this will mark the end of your 1 day Jinja eco tour.
