Your 3 days Kibale National Park chimpanzee trekking tour is designed to give you an unforgettable encounter with one of the habituated chimpanzee communities. The park has an estimate population of over 1000 chimpanzees and 12 other primate species, among other mammals. 

You will have the opportunity to meet a community of about 100 chimpanzees and watch them go about their daily routine amidst the thick trees and massive greenery, which comprise their natural habitat.

Itinerary

Day 1Travel to kibale National Park – visit the Tooro palace, Karambi tombs, and ‘Amabere ga nyina mwiru’ caves en route

Your 3 days Kibale National Park chimpanzee trekking tour will begin with one of our experienced driver-guides picking you from a suitable location in Kampala at 7:30am. You will then embark on your journey to Kibale National Park situated in the South-western Uganda.

You will have lunch in Fort Portal town – Uganda’s renowned tourist hub. Before continuing to Kibale National Park, you will visit a number of remarkable tourist sites within Fort Portal; the Tooro palace – the residence of King Oyo, the reigning monarch of Tooro kingdom, Karambi tombs and the fabled ‘Amabere ga nyina mwiru’ – a remarkable cultural site.

Day 2Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale forest – guided nature walk in Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary

Your Kibale National Park chimpanzee trekking tour will begin with an early breakfast before heading out to Kanyanchu Visitor Center for a briefing from the park authorities after which you will be allocated a chimp community to track. Chimpanzees live in large communities of about 100 individuals, and a typical tracking experience lasts between 2-6 hours.

You will have the opportunity to watch the chimps go about their daily routine; feeding, patrolling, hunting, copulating, as well as playing and breastfeeding for the little ones. After your chimpanzee tracking experience, you will go for a guided nature walk in Bigodi wetland sanctuary in the late afternoon. The swamp is a habitat to over 200 bird species, and a variety of primate and mammal species.

Day 3Return to Kampala – end of safari

You will enjoy a serene drive back to your desired destination in Kampala or to Entebbe Airport if you have a flight to catch. This will mark the end of your 3 days Kibale National Park chimpanzee trekking tour.
